Community service

The Waterford Quilters Guild gives back to the community by donating colorful pillowcases and quilts to several organizations.

Pillowcases for Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter

The Guild dedicates its annual July meeting to the sewing of pillowcases for donation to the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS), using member donated fabrics. Members form a production line to match, cut, and sew colorful pillowcases for women and children. For the past several years we have completed and donated over 100 pillowcases annually.

LAWS gives the pillowcases to women and children seeking shelter and to those receiving counseling and attending training through LAWS programs. We hope that our effort gives some comfort to families going through a hard time and shows them that we care.

Quilts for youth camp

The Waterford Quilters Guild has committed to making 25 bed-size quilts for campers at the FLOC (For Love Of Children) camp in Harper’s Ferry, WV. FLOC provides city youths with a chance to spend a week learning about wildlife and nature, as well as acquiring leadership skills. The donated quilts will replace army blankets the camp currently uses. We hope the campers will enjoy the colorful quilts and will feel the love embodied in their stitches.
